Tree Service in Newberry, FL

Newberry began as a railroad and phosphate town and still has farmland, sports fields, and new subdivisions. We are about 33 minutes away from our north Gainesville base.

From phosphate to ballfields

Phosphate was found in western Alachua County in the 1880s, and the Savannah, Florida, and Western Railway reached Newberry in 1893. The town’s Historic District went on the National Register in 1987, and the Little Red Schoolhouse, built in 1909, is now a museum and city government office.

Dudley Farm Historic State Park, a 325-acre National Historic Landmark, keeps eighteen original buildings from the 1880s to the 1930s on a Florida Cracker farmstead. On W Newberry Road, the Alachua County Agricultural and Equestrian Center sits on the former Canterbury Equestrian Showplace, founded in 1991.

Newberry grew by almost half between 2010 and 2020, from 4,950 residents to 7,342. Champions Park has 16 fields, the Easton-Newberry Sports Complex sits on 100 acres, and Tioga is a newer master-planned community on W Newberry Road.

Trees on farms and fence lines

Live oak and sand live oak are among the most wind-resistant trees, with life spans of 150 years or more. A tree that durable is worth keeping when it is sound, so much of the work around houses, barns, and fences is checking limbs before they fail.

Where fields turn into subdivisions, the trees left standing sit next to new roofs and fences they did not grow up beside. A failed limb or trunk in those spots is a job for Emergency Tree Service, and a broken limb still hanging is a job for Broken & Hanging Branch Removal.

Field notes from Newberry

  • The Newberry Watermelon Festival was first held in 1946.
  • Gilchrist County borders much of Newberry on the west.
  • Gatorback Cycle Park, an off-road motorcycle park, sits northeast of the city.

Out W Newberry Road

Newberry is 33 minutes and 19.5 miles from our base. We head out NW 23rd Avenue to NW 98th Street, then follow W Newberry Road (SR 26) west. Farm properties off the main road can add time.

Newberry tree questions

Does the City of Newberry regulate tree removal?

The City’s code has a Landscaping; Tree Removal article that requires a special permit for certain regulated trees. Ask City Hall’s Community Development staff before a large tree comes down.

Do the city rules cover the farms around Newberry?

Only inside the city limits. Land outside them is usually unincorporated Alachua County, where the county’s permit goes through the County Forester’s office. Much of Newberry also borders Gilchrist County, so confirm which county a rural parcel sits in.

Can you clear a tree that fell across a fence?

Trees on fences are part of Emergency Tree Service, along with storm calls and trees on houses, cars, and drives. Call (727) 486-1206 and tell us where along the fence it landed.
