Tree Service in Alachua, FL
Alachua is about 20 minutes up US 441 from our north Gainesville base. We handle tree removal, trimming, stumps, and storm cleanup there.
Founded in 1884
Alachua was founded in 1884 after a railroad bypassed the older settlement of Newnansville and residents moved to the new town. Main Street is the heart of the Downtown Historic District, on the National Register of Historic Places, with several buildings dating from about 1898 to 1915.
South of town, San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park covers roughly 7,350 acres of mature hardwood forest with more than 40 miles of trails. Progress Park, home to biotech and manufacturing companies, doubles as a trailhead into it.
Housing ranges from older lots around Main Street to Turkey Creek, a gated golf community whose listings run from the late 1970s to new construction. Legacy Park, with its playground and walking paths, is open green space inside the city.

The trees around Alachua
Alachua County owns Cellon Oak Park near La Crosse, home of Florida’s largest live oak, a champion tree about 91 feet tall. Big live oaks are part of the landscape here, and when one drops a limb over a roof or drive, that is a Broken & Hanging Branch Removal job.
Laurel oak is a different story: pruning wounds can lead to internal decay, and it is usually given 50 to 70 years. A laurel oak planted when the first Turkey Creek units went up would be approaching that range now.

Alachua tree questions
Does the City of Alachua require a permit to remove a tree?
The City has its own tree removal permit application, handled through Planning and Community Development, and it asks you to state a reason such as an immediate safety hazard or an infestation of harmful insects or fungi. Check with that office before any large tree comes down.
Is the Alachua County tree permit the same thing?
No. The county tree permit covers only unincorporated Alachua County. Land inside the City of Alachua follows the City’s own application. County permit questions go to the County Forester’s office.
